Bern [ENA] On 27 September, Swissmint is issuing the new "Wind power" silver coin, which completes the trilogy on the theme of "Energy of the Future". As with its two predecessors, "Hydropower" and "Solar energy", the fluorescent elements glow in the dark. Swissmint produces exclusive and limited-edition collector coins under the name "Eidgenössische Sondermünzen". The "Wind power" coin is the last in the trilogy.

With this series on sustainable energy sources, Swissmint wants to draw attention to the issues of climate change and renewable energies, which are important to all of us. Alongside hydropower and solar energy, wind power is becoming the third pillar of Switzerland's energy supply: wind energy bridges the gap created by lower hydroelectric and solar energy production in winter. This is because wind power generates two thirds of its total production in winter. The combination of wind, solar and hydropower means we can all receive Swiss-sourced carbon-free electricity.

The special coins honour projects, associations and prominent figures, and draw attention to issues that are important for Switzerland The 20g special coin "Wind power", alloyed with 999 silver, stands out thanks to, among other things, fluorescent elements on the obverse, which depicts part of a wind turbine and abstract wind currents. The reverse features a globe with fictitious high- and low-pressure areas. In addition, the nominal value of CHF 20 is depicted. 10,000 coins will be issued in proof quality.

Each of these special coins is a miniature work of art The Federal Mint Swissmint produces Swiss franc coins on behalf of the Swiss Confederation. These have been created in the heart of Switzerland since 1855, and in the popular Kirchenfeld district of Bern since 1906. Since 1936, Swissmint has also minted special coins to commemorate important historical and cultural events and to honour prominent figures. Each of these special coins is a miniature work of art in a unique tradition of artistry and craftsmanship.
